Very nice gilt brass lion head guard and pommel incorporating a silver East India Company badge with rampant lion inlaid into the guard. Also included is a steel field scabbard.

In 1857 the Sepoy troops of the East India Company mutinied and it took two years for the Europeans with the help of Nepal and some loyal Indian regiments to retake control of India. At that time the British Government took over the administration of the Indian subcontinent and the British East India Company essentially ceased to exist after 250 years of prominence.
