Original Item: Only One Available. This is just a lovely example of the classic double barrel "Coach Gun", or Stagecoach Shotgun. These were shortened shotguns intended for close quarters use, and were kept inside the coach. Anyone who attempted to rob the Stagecoach would be in for quite the surprise when they forced open the door.
This very nice example features a laminated burl walnut stock with spiral laminated Damascus looking double 14 bore barrels. The center rib is very faintly marked LAMINATED STEEL about 5 inches forward of the breech. The back action percussion locks are both marked MANTON. The barrels are just 19 inches long, and the gun is 35 inches in overall length. JOHN MANTON was one of England's finest gunsmiths in the early part of the 19th Century, as was his brother JOSEPH, who would mentor several famous mid 19th Century gunsmiths. John's son George Henry Manton also made guns until 1854.
Here is a very romantic "Scattergun" of the Manton family make. In really nice condition this presents well and operates perfectly. It even still retains its original brass tipped ramrod. There are also some rack numbers on the end of the rib near the breech.
A very fine percussion COACHING Scattergun ready to be displayed!
