Original Item: Only One Available. Straight out of old barn storage! This fine double barreled shot gun was made in Birmingham, England and signed on the locks by P. WEBLEY & SON, a Company started by PHILIP WEBLEY in 1853 with a Patent for a percussion revolver. In 1866 the Company became known as PHILIP WEBLEY & SON and continued ass such until it merged with W.C. SCOTT & SON becoming the famous WEBLEY SCOTT REVOLVER & ARMS CO. LTD in 1897.
This particular example is a Double Barrel 10 Gauge Shotgun or Scatter gun fitted with 30" barrels, measuring 46 1/2" in overall length. The right hand tube having an ancient steel patch to the side, a real sign of the times. DEFINITELY NOT FOR SHOOTING TODAY!
The top-break action is opened by an "Under Level" nestled around the trigger guard, that when depressed allows the barrels to tip down giving access to the chambers. Both barrels have multiple pits and deterioration on the outer surfaces. The barrel rib is stamped LAMINATED STEEL LONDON, with the trigger guard bearing engraved serial number of 6567. Removing the fore stock and barrels reveals a multitude of British proof marks, as well as the makers initials P.W. & S. as well as the 10 bore size. The serial number 6567 is marked on both barrels, as well as on the frame side. Some of the original laminated barrel finish can even still be seen under the fore stock! The locks are in full operating condition both hammers present. Stocked in good grade walnut with small silver escutcheon oval plate to the under side, unmarked.
Dating to the 1870's or 1880's in its day this was a quality Shotgun. Out of the attic with a note stating that it was discovered in a Maryland Barn. It has lain in storage together with 200 other long guns for over 100 years and is offered uncleaned for the buyer to upgrade and restore. Very attractive and ready to display as is if that is your desire.
