Acquired directly from the British government in the mid 1990s this is fine boxed stereoscope with KERSHAW optics and mirrors by CASELLA of LONDON who was a Ministry of Defense Contractor from about 1970 until 1993 when the "Cold War" eventually ended.

This stereoscope was used to view aerial photography in 3D. Aerial photogrammetry is mainly used to produce topographical maps and terrain models. The optical unit consists of Kershaw prismatic binoculars, type TL.2 with focal adjustment for each eye.

All optical parts, mirrors, steel stand and adjustments are in very good condition. The wood box is in very good condition with the original leather handle, functional catches, functional lock with key. The set comes with all types of various mirrors, fittings. Additionally, numerous maker's marking are easily found as are British military broad arrow acceptance markings.

Ever since WWI, aerial photography has greatly contributed to reconnaissance and to uncovering disguised enemy positions and fortifications. Today this is obsolete with modern technology. However, this instrument represents a time of great international turmoil with the Soviet Union and it demonstrates our spy services amazing ability to know what our adversaries were up to.
