  • Original Item: Only One Available. JOSEPH BUNNEY, one of England's best known Gunsmiths of the 1700s, opened his shop in London in 1730 and traded for three generations, also with a shop in Birmingham, until 1815. With operations in two cities, it was not uncommon for guns to be sold with markings for both on them.

This is a truly impressive all brass blunderbuss barreled flintlock pistol, fitted with a 7 inch long spring bayonet located on the right side of the barrel at 3 O'clock. This is held closed by a brass safety catch, and when released it locks into place. There is no release button, just the upturned end of the retaining spring, to unlock the bayonet. The box lock has a safety catch directly behind the cock that locks it in place at half cock only, a common feature on these pistols.

The left side of the frame is engraved BUNNEY and the right hand side is engraved LONDON. There is a Silver oval escutcheon on the back of the walnut stock grip, which looks to be marked with a script "T" or "P". The most attractively half-octagonal flared brass blunderbuss barrel is 8" in length and marked on the underside with British Proof Marks, most likely pre-1813 Birmingham. The pistol is 13" overall, with lovely flat sided wood grips.

A lovely and very hard to find Original brass flintlock blunderbuss pistol by a great and famous British Gun Maker. Ready to display!
