  • Original Item: One of a Kind. Of all brass construction, this is a Three Draw telescope as purchased by a named Officer, who served in the 1899-1901 Second Boer War in South Africa. It measures 10" when completely closed and 31" when fully extended including its brass lens cover to the front. The Optics appear to be in perfect order, and the eyepiece lens cover is functional. Fully polished, it is marked with the Officer's name on the barrel by the eyepiece:-

    2nd. Lt. J. NORWOOD
    5th DRAG-GDs

Attached to this telescope when we bought the collection was a note stating that 2nd Lieutenant John Norwood of the 5th Dragoon Guards was KILLED IN ACTION. The 5th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) Dragoon Guards fought at the battles of Elandslaagte and Ladysmith during the Boer War Conflict.

These telescopes went on to be widely used on the Western Front in the first World War. In very nice condition and very decorative, ready to display!
