  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous Civil War Era powder flask featuring a decorative pattern on the exterior. The flask was made by James Barlow & Co. of Birmingham, one of the British manufacturers of the Industrial Revolution. James Barlow & Co was a scissors partnership, which included James Barlow, Henry Longden, and Sarah Barlow.  In 1786, the latter withdrew.  In 1787, the Sheffield directory listed James Barlow & Co, fine scissors maker, at Meadow Street, using the trade mark ‘BARLOW’.

The flask measures approximately 8” long. The cap still screws on and off without issue, but the spring to hold the hole closed when not in use is very weak, so there isn’t much tension, but it still moves. The spout can no longer be adjusted to change the amount of powder. There were originally rings on the sides of the flask to hold a carrying strap, but the rings are now gone and there are holes at the sides. There is no powder remaining in the flask. This example dates to the American Civil War period. A very beautiful flask that will fit well into any Civil War or 19th Century firearm collection!
