  • Original Item: Only One Available. A fine example of a late 19th Century- Early 20th Century Belgian-Made Diplomat’s Court Sword by the firm of Fonson & Cie. The sword itself mimics the appearance of the classic British Model 1796 Officer’s Sword, which traditionally was a very popular design amongst the European market for decades.

The Sword features a faintly etched blade, with each side exhibiting decorative scrollwork extending halfway up the blade. The hilt is constructed of brass with a decorative floral/flag/lion motif with a silver wash applied. The handle is made of black horn with a brass wire wrap. One guard folds down, with a locking mechanism that functions perfectly. Overall the sword exhibits a very pleasing patina. The ricasso is marked with the maker information:

    FONSON & CIE
    FABRICANTS
    BRUXELLES

Original leather scabbard is included, which features a hook at the throat which allows the sword to be worn by either the means of a baldric. The scabbard unfortunately is missing the drag (finial or tip)of the scabbard and shows signs of slight shrinkage.
