Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. We just received this lovely example along with about 200 other guns, from a collection that sat in an attic for close to 100 years. This is a truly MASSIVE double barreled shotgun, and really is of EPIC proportions. This Belgian-made shotgun has 39" Damascus steel twist barrels, with Silver banding around the nipple end, which measure about 21mm at the muzzle, indicating that these are in EIGHT BORE. We had half expected them to be rifled, but they are definitely made as shotgun barrels. Perhaps this was intended to shoot slugs, whatever it was it would have packed a real punch! The gun also measures a substantial 56 inches in overall length.
The barrels are marked with both the "Tower of Liège" proof mark on the side, as well as E / L G / * in an oval under the stock, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium. This small country, which only gained independence in the early 19th century, had long been a firearms production powerhouse, with Liège being the center of manufacturing. The shotgun breaks down correctly by removing the barrel wedges, which allows the barrel markings to be seen.
Clearly made in Belgium for the Export Market, very likely to the United States, leaving the gun un-signed so an American Gunsmith could add his name and address. Massive top barrel rib between the barrels. Fitted with TWO sets of wedges in the fore stock to retain the barrel there is also an "owner's plaque" under the fore end which has never been engraved. There is also a "moon" metal inlay on the left side of the butt stock. Complete with it's wood ramrod the gun has cleaned up very nicely.
A Monster that could live at your house that is ready to display!
