  • Original Item: Only one Available. Austria had amassed a considerable Empire by the middle of the 19th Century, extending to Hungary and the Balkans. This necessitated a need for a Naval presence for the land-locked country, which previously had not had a large one. For armaments, they purchased Belgian-made Naval Percussion pistols such as this one, based of the Dutch/Belgian Flintlock design of the early 1800's.

There is no provision for ramrod, the mounts are all of brass and the grade of original manufacture is really quite high. The top of the barrel is marked with the "Perron" Tower of Liège near the cap nipple, and it also has the standard E / L G / * in an oval, also for Liège. There is also a * / Z proof, which is often seen on Austrian guns. The large lock plate is completely devoid of markings, often seen on these contract pistols made in Belgium.

The left side of the stock, is marked PM&CIE, either for the company that produced the stock, or possibly an exporter. It is possible that after service in Austria, this may have been exported to the U.S. Civil War market, as there was a great demand for obsolete pistols.

Condition of the pistol is still very good, with a great color to the stock and only light service wear. There is just a small crack by the lower lock screw, a common area to see them. The lock still functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. The metalwork shows a lovely oxidized patina, and the butt stock lanyard ring is still present, with a smaller brass ring installed as well.

An unusual weapon, ready to research and display!
