  • Original Item: Only One Available. This Belgian-made 13 bore shotgun is unsigned on the exterior, but is most likely intended for the British market, due to the "London" marking on the top of the barrel. This gun was  most likely intended for use in the Highlands of Scotland, because of the impressively carved "Deer's Head" incorporated in the carving of the butt stock. It features nickel silver white metal mounts with minor engraving on the lock plates. There is also some very nice nickel inlay work near the base of the barrels. The gun has an overall length of 48 inches, with double 32" inch barrels.

We can just make out some engraving on the barrel rib between the two barrels which looks like:-

    LONDON FINE TWIST

This would rather indicate that it was retailed in London, perhaps for the Scottish Deer market or for Export to the United States as this gun was NOT made in England.

The barrels are marked on the underside with as E / L G / * in an oval under the stock, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium. This small country, which only gained independence in the early 19th century, had long been a firearms production powerhouse, with Liège being the center of manufacturing. There are additional markings on the underside of the barrels, which are proof and specification markings.

There is a crack in the wood butt stock running directly rearward from the rear of the lock plates through the wrist which any Gunsmith could repair but nevertheless this Gun is now for decoration and not use in its present state. The shotgun breaks down correctly by removing the barrel wedge, which allows the barrel markings to be seen. The locks both require adjustment, as the left side has no half cock, and the right does not hold at half or full cock.

Very impressive looking with its German Silver mounts and it's Deer's Head Carving. Dating from around 1840 and ready to display!
