Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting and scarce “dog tag” set, a lovely gilt Austro-Hungarian officer’s identification card capsule, which contains a paper record of the officer, his date of birth, rank, and unit information. This example retains much of its original gilt finish and retains the original black string.
The capsule retains the original paper record for the officer, which lists his Truppen or troop (unit) as 6/14 Gebirgstrain, or Mountain Train, meaning he was an officer in charge of supplying troops in the mountainous terrain of the Austro-Hungarian Italian front. His name is Heinrich Spitz, and his rank is Oberleutnant, or Senior Lieutenant. He first joined the Army in 1906, and was born in Wien (Vienna), Austria on January 11th, 1885.
A great example worthy of further research! This is the first Austro-Hungarian dog tag set we have offered, so don’t miss out!
