  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting and scarce “dog tag” set, a lovely gilt Austro-Hungarian officer’s identification card capsule, which contains a paper record of the officer, his date of birth, rank, and unit information. This example retains much of its original gilt finish and retains the original black string. This example has three different papers inside, all to the same officer with the same information, very interesting that he kept them all like this.

The capsule retains the original paper record for the officer, which lists his Truppen or troop (unit) as K.u.K. Infant. Rgt. 14, indicating service with the 14th Austrian Regiment of Infantry. His name is Friedrich(?) Schneider, and his rank is Major. He was born in 1869 and first enlisted in the military in 1886, at the age of 17. He appears to be from Lemberg, present day Lviv, Ukraine.

A great example worthy of further research! This is only the second Austro-Hungarian dog tag set we have offered, so don’t miss out!
