Original Austro-Hungarian WWI Officer’s Summerweight M1908 Pike Gray Tunic

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. Now this is a rare, lovely condition WWI summerweight field uniform tunic as worn by a 1t Lieutenant during WWI. This is the type of uniform that would have been worn in a desert/hot environment. The long-standing white infantry uniforms were replaced in the later half of the 19th century with dark blue tunics, which in turn were replaced by the pike gray M1908 uniform used in the initial stages of World War I, though white uniforms were still being worn. In September 1915, field gray was adopted as the new official uniform color. As the KuK Army was plagued with supply shortages, when the new Field-gray uniforms were first introduced, remaining stocks of the preexisting Pike-gray uniforms remained in use alongside the newer Feldgrau model like this one.

The tunic is in wonderful condition and does show signs of honest field wear. There is staining and moth nips present which can be expected with uniform items of this age. The uniform set appears to be complete with all buttons which no longer retain their original finish. The green collar tabs have two stars on each side indicating the rank of Oberleutnant.

A beautiful rare tunic that comes more than ready for further research and display.
