  • Original Item. Only One Available. Much like Chile, Argentina had also turned its attention towards the German Empire to redesign its army in the last decades of the 19th century but unlike its neighbor, it kept elements of French and Spanish influence so some of their uniforms can be seen as somewhat anachronistic but much fortunately they made that choice because their uniforms and swords can be some of the most ''colorful'' of the bunch. Just like keeping the uniform styles, they kept sidearms much like this Model 1898 Cavalry Troopers Saber.

The ricasso of this saber is marked Weyersburg, Kirschbaum & Cie. Solingen, often abbreviated to WKC, and the designation Sable de caballeria Modelo 1898 around the nation coat-of-arms is on the other side. All the fittings and back of the ricasso had multiple stamps such as A, P* or N which were inspection marks the same way the German swords had theirs. This area is stamped with serial number B05903. The hilt design is a copy of the Saxon Model 1891 sword, with the Argentinian Coat of Arms in place of the German emblem.

The sword is in really good condition and is presented without any extensive damage other than the usual staining/peppering on the blade. The blade measures approximately 34 1/2” in length and does have a few nicks in the edge. The sword comes complete with its original 35 3/8” in steel scabbard. The scabbard has no significant damage present but there are a few dents which we believe were made intentionally to better hold the saber. It is also stamped with Serial number B05903, making this a great matching set.

The sword comes with what appears to be its original belt frog which has some interesting construction elements.

A lovely example, ready for further research and display!
