  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Measuring 13.5 W x 9.25 H in the original black frame, it appears to be a print, possibly from a newspaper that has been adhered to a wood panel on front with the accompanying extensive written article adhered to the reverse. The article is dated August 9th, 1815 and signed E.W."

The Battle of Waterloo occurred just over seven weeks before on Sunday June18, 1815. The illustration is colored, possibly by hand and shows the burying of the dead together with various soldiers and damaged buildings.

Interestingly the wood panel shows evidence of long dead woodworm which suggests this item was framed and colored almost as soon as it was printed.

With a hanging ring to the center of the back, this hung in a British pub for almost 200 years. Absolutely charming, a very old item which looks the part.
