Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have what we believe to be an turn of the 19th Century American flintlock pocket pistol, made very much in the design popular in Britain and Western Europe at the time. It is a "boxlock" type design with a top mounted cocking piece, with an overall length of 5 7/8", featuring a lovely engraved box frame and flat-sided wooden grip. We were not able to find any markings whatsoever on the pistol, which definitely points to U.S. manufacture, as they had no proof house system for civilian arms.
The pistol features an all iron frame with a turn off 1 3/8" smoothbored barrel in approximately 0.38" caliber, which actually screws and unscrews without issue! This is quite scarce to see as the vast majority of these have seized barrels. The action works well, with the frizzen closing easily, though the lock will fire at both half and full cock. The flat-sided wooden grip is in great shape, showing the expected light wear, and there is a crack on the top rear near the action. The metalwork has a lovely aged patina, with some evidence of past peppering, and the engraving on the frame is very well retained.
A lovely example, ready to display!
