Original 19th Century Ottoman Flintlock Holster Pistol with Full Length Ramrod - circa 1800
Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Here is a very typical Ottoman Pirate Pistol used by the Barbary Pirates who caused such havoc in the Mediterranean Sea in the early 1800s. It was actually the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps that landed at Tripoli in what is now Libya and defeated the local Bey, much to the delight of the European Nations and North African Countries who had suffered the Pirate scourge.
This example has a 12" barrel and is 19" in overall length. It is brass mounted and the triangular side plate is absent. The woodwork contains some decorative carving, the brass mounts some engraving as with the iron lock. Most unusually the pistol is fitted with a European style FULL LENGTH wood ramrod with a horn tip, which fits under the barrel. In almost all cases Ottoman pistols were equipped with "faux/fake" ramrods as it was Ottoman tradition to carry a ram rod separately suspended around the neck of the Pirate on a leather thong so it could not be lost during combat.
In generally very fine collectible condition ready to display!
