Original 19th Century European .22 Rimfire Pistol for Indoor Shooting - circa 1860
Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Pistols such as these are quite novel, and were produced in the 1860's for the then current passion of indoor shooting. Many European households were much concerned with street violence and this indoor shooting designed to get Ladies and young adults familiar with guns for self protection was an instant hit at the time. It was designed to shoot very low pressure approximately .22 Caliber cartridges.
This example measures 7 1/2" in overall length, with a 5 1/2" cannon barrel. The design is most appealing with its diminutive small bird's head grip. Bears a serial number of 910, with Crown / U proof marks under the barrel. No other markings visible. It features a swiveling breech plate, and simple lever extractor. Fully working, though it does have some past pitting, which had been removed.
A very fascinating little pistol of the 1860's, ready to display.
