Original 19th Century Classic Saudi Arabian Jambiya Dagger in Silver Scabbard with Hanger Cord

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Janbiya, also spelled janbia, jambiya, and jambia (Arabic: جنبية‎ janbīyah), is the Arabic term for dagger, but it is generally used to describe a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade. The term janbiya is used in various Arab countries and India, it is closely associated with the people of Yemen and is prevalent among Muslim men in the Horn of Africa (primarily the Afars of Djibouti).

The Traditional Saudi Arabian Jambiya was used for centuries, but this one dates to the end of the Victorian era of the 19th century. The blade is contained in an embossed silver covered Scabbard, and has a crown mark engraved onto the ricasso. The curved blade is double sided and 9" in length, and has a 7 inch edge on the inside of the curve, while the outside edge is 4.5 inches long.  Overall length is just over 16". Wood grip with embossed silver panels and mounts.

In nice Collectible Display condition the dagger came to us with a white cotton cord body rope, which was probably added by an enthusiastic collector or may even be
original to the Dagger, which is rather unlikely. Ready to display.
