The makers of folk art are typically trained within a popular tradition, rather than in the fine art tradition of the culture. There is often overlap, or contested ground with 'native art'. "Folk art" is not used in regard to traditional societies where ethnographic art continues to be made.
This is a miniature Russian Model 1910 Maxim Machine Gun which is a fantastic piece of folk art!
Most likely made in the 1940s, this gun is almost entirely handmade! The gun is made of a combination of aluminum, brass, steel, and single-slotted screws. The Sokolov Mount is made of steel with wheels likely repurposed from a toy from the period. The gun is able to elevate and pivot.
A very unique piece which is not only a great piece of American folk art, but an interesting curio to add to a military collection as well.
Measures 20 ¼” long from trail to muzzle, and approximately 6 ¾” tall.
