  • Original Item: One of a Kind. This is an amazing mid 18th Century Italian flintlock pistol, featuring a beautifully carved stock, all brass mounted with lovely silver and brass inlaid designs throughout! The bottom face of the lock is marked with a small G ✶ STORNAT, for Guilio Stornat (sometimes Stornati), a known Italian Gunsmith working in the gun-making region of Brescia from approximately 1720 to 1750.

The pistol has a lovely 12 1/2" barrel that is part octagonal near the breech, and measures 19 1/2" in total length. It pistol bears beautiful embossed brass mounts, which fantastic embossed silver inlays, including THREE beautiful stands of arms on the butt cap alone, one on the bottom, and one on either side. There is an additional similar inlay on the trigger guard and also one on the top of the barrel! There are additional inlays on just about all of the brass fittings, and the lock and barrel also bear much brass inlay work surrounding the silver. We very rarely see such extensively decorated pistols, and this one is in really great shape!

The stock is made from beautiful burl root wood, showing the rich patterns of the grain as well as the correct chatoyancy in the light. There is are floral patterns carved into the fore stock and around the barrel tang, and there are raised carved areas around most of the fittings. Truly a worn of art! The wrist bears a large brass escutcheon with more embossed silver inlay work, which really looks great. Under the barrel is a brass fit wooden ramrod, which looks to be original and is in great shape. We checked the lock mechanics, and it is fully functional, holding correctly at half cock and firing at full.

A great Silver and Brass Inlaid Italian pistol in just lovely condition with a fantastic carved stock, made in Brescia circa 1730 by known maker Giulio Stornat. Now almost 300 years old, this is ready to cherish and display!
