Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely Ottoman Turkish matchlock musket gun, measuring 68 1/2" in overall length, the barrel itself being 48 3/4". The traditional ignition system used in the Ottoman Empire beginning in 1452, regularly used up until the start of the 18th century, but also still made as a cheap alternative to more modern ignition systems for the next century. With a bore of around .54", this is a highly maneuverable weapon despite its long length. These were always smooth bore, but with such long barrels could in the right hands shoot over considerable distances.
This is a truly excellent example in very nice "aged" condition, made around 1750 during the early Georgian era. The barrel bands are mostly of sheet brass, which has aged to a lovely patina. the action area is enclosed almost entirely with sheet iron, probably to stabilize the wrist and the stock overall, which would be weakened due to the wood removed for the matchlock action. The butt stock is the typical 5 sided type we see on Ottoman muskets of this era, though it is a bit more streamlined. We checked the action, and the match holder is present, and moves easily when the trigger is pulled. There is also a hinged cover on the flash pan, used to keep the priming powder from falling out.
Absolutely original and a truly marvelous example, ready to display!
