Original Item: Only one available. This is very nice example of a rare English "Queen Anne" style flintlock pistol, with some lovely appointments. It features a love embossed brass "grotesque" mask butt cap on the walnut grip, which also has some lovely silver wire engraving on the back.
The pistol overall shows a good amount of use, displaying a lovely peppery patina on the barrel and most of the metalwork. The pistol does not have any maker marks on it, but that is not uncommon for bespoke pieces such as this, and the original proof marks, if there were any, are now worn away. We can also see traces of foliate engraving on various areas of the pistol, so it definitely must have been quite the looker when it was first made!
The pistol measures 9 inches in overall length, with a 3 ¼ inch screw off cannon barrel, in the typical "Queen Anne" style, though as with many we see, the barrel is currently frozen in place. The pistol has an iron trigger guard, and there is no provision for a ramrod, not needed if it had a removable barrel. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
The pistol grip is really lovely, with the very well executed grotesque mask, and though some of the silver wire inlay work is missing, there is still enough to see clearly where it used to be. There are some dents and small repairs to the grip, but nothing out of the ordinary for a gun of this age.
A lovely "Queen Anne" flintlock pistol in fine Collector's condition, ready to research and display!
