Original 18th/19th Century British Made Brown Bess Socket Bayonet by John Gill

Item Description

Original item: Only One Available This is in very good condition, having spent many years as part of a private collection. It is a standard socket bayonet used by His Majesty's forces in North America and across the Empire and throughout the Napoleonic Wars. Almost all were melted down or lost over the past 200 years, so these are rare in any condition.

The bayonet is maker marked to JOHN-GILL on the 16" blade, with an overall length 20 3/4". Designed for the .75 bore Brown Bess Musket, which was in service for over 100 years as the primary long arm of the British Empire. Condition is very good, with just a bit of surface rust and light staining in places as shown.
