  • Original Items: One-of-a-kind grouping. This is a fantastic set, with two original German WWII combat awards, each with their original BESITTZZEUGNIS "possession/award" certificates, some photo album pages with great photography, and an original watercolor drawing. There are 80 photographs total. The set is named to Obergefreiten Paul Kreber of Pionier-Bataillon 74.

The awards earned by this soldier in date received are the Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42 (Eastern Front Medal), and the Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse mit Schwertern (German WWII War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords). Both of the awards are in excellent condition, with their original ribbons and certificates.

Both documents measure approximately, 8" x 5.5", (20cm x 14cm), and are printed on mid-weight paper with black print and typed in particulars. Both documents are dated, with their correct stamps and signatures.

The first document indicates that the Eastern Front Medal was awarded to Obergefreiten Paul Kreber on 20. August 1942, while serving with Stab/Pi. Btl. 74, or Pionier-Bataillon 74 Staff. It was signed by the Hauptmann u. Kommanduer. The second document indicates that Obergefreiten Paul Kreber was awarded the War Merit Cross on 1.2. 1943. The document indicates that at this time he was in the Stab/Pi. Btl. 74, or Pionier-Bataillon 74. It is signed by the General.

Both documents are in good condition, with the expected wear and yellowing from age. They all show folding and light staining, as expected of documents of this age.

The group also has 74 photographs still on photo album pages with their spider web onion paper covers. These pages show a great lot of material with photos of soldiers, photos of Kraber, many photos labeled Trier 1940, many group photos of soldiers, many sight-seeing photos of buildings and scenery, etc. This is a fantastic group of photos that brings the experiences of this soldier to life.

Also in this group are 6 loose photos, 3 of which show Kreber with other soldiers, 1 shows a man being given a haircut, one shows him with his rifle slung over his back, and the last shows him or someone else at a dinner table eating.

Also included is a 6½ x 8” watercolor drawing of two snowed-in houses in Tschernjachoff, Ukraine, and was done by W. Bergmann in 1943.

This is a tremendous group to a German pioneer soldier including two medals with their original documents and a ton of photography. Comes ready for further research and display!
