Contemporary Replica Item: Only One Available. Here is a very nice recent production octagonal barreled "Kentucky" style rifle, which more correctly is known as a Pennsylvania Rifle. Recently interest in the style has undergone quite a resurgence, and rather than risk damage to a valuable antique, many companies and artisans have started producing the style again. This example may possibly have been made from a kit of some sorts, but was definitely expertly assembled from high quality components.

The heavy octagonal barrel is 43 1/2" long and the rifle measures 60" in overall length. The gun has a lovely full length stock, very common on Pennsylvania rifles. It is mostly brass mounted, with a nickel silver "hunter's star" on the left side of the stock, as well as nickel silver barrel pin escutcheons. There is a brass patch box on the right side of the stock surrounded by a brass plate, and the left side of the stock has a lovely carved cheek rest with some other carved decorations behind.

The barrel is fitted with standard fixed sights, and the lock is a nice replica "trade" flintlock, very common for the period. It is fully functional, and looks to be very well made. The ramrod has a spiral pattern around it, made by wrapping a burning string around it to give the appearance of figuring. The bore is in great shape, showing crisp 8 groove rifling, with just a bit of wear and fouling towards the front.
