This is an original German WWII hand-held stopwatch manufactured by Wagner and marked RLM on the rear for the Reichsluftfahrtministerium, or Reich Ministry of Aviation. It is accompanied by its original fitted carrying case. The stopwatch is currently non-functional.

The Reichsluftfahrtministerium was the central German government ministry responsible for aviation policy, aircraft development and procurement, civil aviation, and administrative oversight of the Luftwaffe. Equipment bearing an RLM marking was manufactured or procured for use within Germany’s wartime aviation establishment, although the marking alone does not identify the stopwatch’s precise assignment or manner of use.

The watch was manufactured by Wagner of Pforzheim, a known supplier of RLM timepieces and hand-held stopwatches. Comparable Wagner examples were intended to measure elapsed seconds and minutes for aviation-related technical, navigational, training, or administrative purposes.

This example does not run. The crystal is loose and is no longer attached to the watch case. Depressing the upper button still returns the hand to the top of the dial, indicating that the reset mechanism remains partially operational, but the stopwatch has no other apparent mechanical function. It is being sold strictly as a non-working collectible and has not been represented as suitable for operation without professional examination and repair.

The original fitted case measures approximately 3 1/8 x 3 7/8 x 1 1/8 inches. Its exterior latch remains present and functional.

Despite its mechanical condition and detached crystal, this remains an appealing example of a German WWII RLM-marked aviation stopwatch. The clearly identified Wagner manufacture, rear RLM marking, surviving reset action, and original fitted case give it strong display and historical interest.
