British WWII British Lancashire Fusiliers Wolseley Pattern Foreign Service Helmet with Tin Transit Chest

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. From World War Two this British Pith Helmet was issued for use in the tropics. The Lancashire Fusiliers faced the Germans in Europe and were then shipped east to India and took part in the Burma Campaign against the Japanese.

This particular helmet, very possibly an officer's, is complete with puggaree wrappings is dated 1942, has the original maker label reading "Helmets Ltd., Wheathampstead and the original size label of 7 ¼.

The front bears the regimental brass cap badge of a "King's Crown in laurel wreath circle" and over the left ear there is an "LF" either side of a Regimental button motif supporting a black over orange feather hackle. The easily detachable leather chin strap is absent.

This helmet is neatly contained in the original tin transit chest still showing a partial address label of the Soldier "Mr. R. Norman, Oxgang Road, Grangem....., Stir...." We suspect "Stirling which is located in Scotland.

A very interesting Military collectible from WW2 with enough clues to allow for some additional

research.
