  • Original Item: You probably remember the movie "The Battle of Britain" the story of how the massively outnumbered Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) repelled the Goring's mighty German Luftwaffe. The British Fighter Squadrons sat on alert all day long only to be called to action with the ringing of a Bell with the command "SQUADRON SCRAMBLE!!!" Well this is one of those WW2 Fighter Squadron Aerodrome (as they were then called) Bells! Absolutely ORIGINAL this large Brass bell stands almost 9 inches tall and almost 11" across the mouth, a monster! Complete with the Original Maker's Stamp "G.& J." and also marked ""A. M." around a King's Crown and dated "1943". These bells were not intended to swing. They were securely suspended from a bracket and the clapper which swings on its own attachment to the inside center had a rope strung through its lower large eyelet so the clapper rang the Bell when the rope was pulled backward and forwards. Time to re-look at that old movie! Anyway there it is, a genuine WW2 dated Fighter Aerodrome "Squadron Scramble" Bell to put the Spitfires in the Air to meet the oncoming Luftwaffe Air Raids. This is real and this is rare! Dated 1943.
