Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic, dual purpose cardboard advertising sign for not only Marvels cigarettes but for War Bonds/Stamps as well. The focal point of the sign is the Female War Industry Worker in her work utility uniform. Encouraged by government recruiting campaigns, some 6 million women took jobs in defense plants during the first three years of the war. Many of them left conventional domestic jobs—maids, cooks, waitresses—to join industrial assembly lines. Others had never worked outside the home. Not surprisingly, they encountered prejudice among their male co-workers. Yet the overall experience was quite positive for many women, and it created long-lasting changes in outlook and perspective.

The sign, which measures approximately 22” x 18”, features an image of a female worker with an open pack of Marvels brand cigarettes to her left. The message on the sign presents the message “Put Your Money Where It Counts” / “BUY MORE WAR BONDS AND WAR STAMPS”. The bottom of the poster has the Marvels “THE FRESH CIGARETTE OF QUALITY” slogan.

The condition is quite nice but there is some material loss towards the top of her hat and it appears to be a piece missing.

A lovely example of a hard to find advertisement piece. Comes more than ready for further research and display.
