Original Soviet Cold War Era ZSH-3 Flight Helmet Set With Inner Leather helmet/liner and KM-32 Oxygen Mask - As Worn by Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 Pilots

Regular price $595.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful example of an early Soviet ZSH-3 Flight helmet set, it even comes with the KM-32 Oxygen Mask and leather helmet which served as the liner itself with avionics present. Leather helmet avionics formed the basis for a new generation of protective helmets, which began to be produced in the 1960s for jet pilots of the time.

The increase in speed pushed for a higher level of protection, which was required, particularly, during ejection. The ZSH-3 became one of the first helmets that visually resembled modern devices, although, in fact, it was a separate helmet with folding flaps and an optical filter that was lowered manually if necessary. An inner helmet liner was worn, the general appearance of which has not changed much since WWII.

All components are in wonderful condition and the helmet, while it was issued out, it presents itself with little wear. The back side of the helmet has a name along with numbers present on a tag. The leather helmet/liner is in wonderful, similar wear presenting itself very nicely.

A great example ready for further research and display.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 is a variable-geometry fighter aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union. It is a third-generation jet fighter, alongside similar Soviet aircraft such as the Su-17 "Fitter".

It was the first Soviet fighter to field a look-down/shoot-down radar, the RP-23 Sapfir, and one of the first to be armed with beyond-visual-range missiles. Production started in 1969 and reached large numbers with over 5,000 aircraft built, making it the most produced variable-sweep wing aircraft in history. The MiG-23 remains in limited service with some export customers.

The basic design was also used as the basis for the Mikoyan MiG-27, a dedicated ground-attack variant. Among many minor changes, the MiG-27 replaced the MiG-23's nose-mounted radar system with an optical panel holding a laser designator and a TV camera.
