Item Description

Original Items: Only One Set Available. Now this is an extremely attractive offering! What we have here is a uniform jacket, peaked visor and 1957 Version Knight's Cross for a German Cold War Era Panzertruppen Brigade-General. While the uniform is unnamed, this is still an incredible and rather rare uniform, perfect for further research!

This came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when this was acquired.

The jacket is in wonderful condition and is presented without any extensive damage. There are minor areas of mothing, staining and loose threading but it is otherwise a beautiful example. There is a lovely bullion embroidered shield insignia on the left sleeve indicating the Panzer-Brigade 8 ”Lüneberg”. The peaked visor is in fantastic condition with a great shape and minimal issues.

The Knights Cross is the 1957 version. As modern German law prohibits the production and display of items containing NSDAP insignia, the West German government authorized replacement Iron Crosses in 1957 with a trifoliate Oak Leaf Cluster in place similar to the Iron Crosses of 1813, 1870, and 1914, which could be worn by World War II Knight's Cross recipients.

A lovely example ready for further research and display.
