Original U.S. WWII Named US Marine Corps HBT Coveralls Tailored To “P41” Jacket Size

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a wonderful example of just how resourceful Marines can be. This HBT jacket started its life off as a full sized pair of coveralls before going under the literal knife to be transformed into a more suitable jacket. These coveralls would have been worn mostly by mechanics but also in certain circumstances tankers as well.

The 1941 Pattern Utility Uniform was one of the standard uniforms of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. The uniform was exceedingly simple, consisting of only two pieces. These were the green or khaki, cotton jacket and trousers. While initially intended only to be a working uniform or one to be used for general purpose work, it quickly became adopted as standard for field and combat duty. Most importantly for the Pacific, it was straightforward and did not contain unnecessary features that would hinder marines in combat. This reasoning could very well be why this Marine transformed his coveralls, wanted to still stay in uniform but also be more comfortable.

The overall condition is quite nice with a great faded and worn look to it. The front right side above the only breast pocket is the name J.E. FREE stamped in black. We have not been able to locate any service information on this Marine. Each sleeve has what appears to be a Sergeant chevron which was drawn on multiple times.

A great, solid example ready for further research and display.
