Original U.S. WWII USMC Model No.2 Kapok-Style Life Preserver Vest by C. A. Reed - dated 1944

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice U.S. Marine Corps Model No.2 "Kapok" Life preserver vest, in the correct Navy Blue color, dated 1944. It is marked with U.S.M.C. above the Marine Corps EGA. This is the first of this type of life preserver that we have had, as they were more easily used post war than the "Mae West" type, which required air for inflation and functionality. This type of preserver was also intended more for "General" use, and not just for pilots. The larger size would have made it cumbersome in the cockpit, but for ship-based servicemen, it was perfect.

This wonderful example is complete and marked on the left front:

ADULT
FOR GENERAL USE
MODEL No.2
C.A. REED FURNITURE CO.
LOS ANGELES, CALIF.
Approval No. B-258
1944

This example is in great condition, and is complete, with all ties and the waist belt functional. It is the version used by Navy and USMC on ships, and is a dark navy blue color. The way it is constructed, it can be worn with either side out, so the wearer would not need to worry when grabbing one from the rack. There is a short piece of elastic on the left shoulder, which is where a lamp could be attached for easier night location.
