Original U.S. Civil War Era Army Officer's M1860 Dress Parade Sword by B.B. Abrahams & Co. with Scabbard

Item Description

The blade does not lookgOriginal Item: One of a Kind. We received this out of an old attic collection, where it had been for some time. This is the standard Union Officer's Dress or Parade Sword Model 1860, issued during the Civil War Era. The blade is somewhat worn, but there is still a faint makers mark etched on the ricasso:

B.B. ABRAHAMS
PHILA

This is the maker mark for B.B. Abrahams & Co of Philadelphia, a known retailer of military uniforms and other accoutrements. The blade is the standard thin "spear point" shape, measuring 30 1/4" in length.  The blade does not look to have been plated, so it was originally bright steel, which now has staining due to age and oxidation.

The sword measures 36" overall, and the hilt and "shell" Guard are bronze/brass and the grip is wire wrapped black leather over wood. The wiring is twisted, and in really good shape. The original blade leather washer is still in place, and overall the sword presents very nicely.

It comes in its original decorated brass mounted steel scabbard, which has a very nice plated finish and a lovely patina. Scabbard is straight, with no real dents that we can see. The plating is flaking a bit near the throat, which shows the copper flash coat used before the final nickel plating.

Just out of the attic but ready to display!
