Original Rare U.S. Civil War Confederate Issue Percussion Cap Box Pouch

Regular price $1,295.00

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of the classic early war “Shield Front Confederate Issue Cap Pouch, fitted with a solid lead finial. These examples were copies of the Pre/Early War Federal Issue M-1851 Cap Pouch. The pouch exhibits many of the tell-tale features of a Confederate-made cap pouch, which generally are cruder in construction than their Union U.S. Issued counterparts. This is one of the best examples we have ever had the pleasure of offering!

One singular large Irregularly cut belt loop is secured to the reverse by the means of waxed linen thread (the top portion of the loop is unstitched, likely from when it was cut off the belt of a deceased Confederate Soldier in order to be taken as a souvenir by a Union Soldier).  The securing stud on the body of the cap pouch is lead, which is one of the most desirable variations of these Confederate Made Cap Pouches. Miraculously. The original closure strap is still completely intact, which is usually not the case.

The stitching is still good and strong in the areas that still have it. The ears of the pouch flap are missing, unfortunately. Internal fleece is missing, which is not uncommon. The leather is in good condition, showing wear and age from honest use and storage wear… but overall, not bad at all for a piece of military equipage that is over 150 years old!

Confederate issue accouterments are incredibly hard to find. This is an excellent example of the “Classic” confederate cap pouch, with all the most desirable features! This is perfect for the Civil War collection!
