Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 4 Available. This is a lovely starter set, perfect for the collector who is just coming into the hobby. The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) was the principal ground force of the Empire of Japan. Forming one of the military branches of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces (IJAF), it was controlled by the Imperial Japanese Army General Staff Office and the Army Ministry, both of which were nominally subordinate to the Emperor of Japan, the supreme commander of IJAF. During the 20th century, an Inspectorate General of Aviation became the third agency with oversight of the IJA. At its height, the IJA was one of the most influential factions in the politics of Japan and was one of the most powerful armies in the world. The IJA was also notorious for committing numerous war crimes during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific War, such as the Nanjing Massacre and the Bataan Death March.

The Items In This Lot:

- Officer’s Leather Map Case: The map case is in very good condition, showing typical signs of wear. It is hand-stitched, and embroidered with a five-pointed star. This denotes that the owner was of officer rank within the Japanese military. From this we also know that this map case is an earlier example; the later cases were embroidered with a circle instead of a star.

- EMPTY Comfort Bag imon-bukuro: Comfort bag was a gift packet prepared by civilians to be sent to Imperial Japanese Military soldiers for the purpose of encouraging them. The bag contains comfort articles not issued by the Japanese Military, such as toiletries, dried fruits, canned foods, and letters of encouragement. Bags were prepared by schoolgirls or local patriotic women's societies. These activities were also made in Korea, which was then under Japanese rule, to encourage Korean soldiers in the Imperial Japanese Military.

- Canteens; WWI era and Naval Landing Forces: This is a nice example of an Original WWI Era Japanese Issue Canteen. This is the Pattern 1905 Canteen, with the updated canvas suspension harness which dates from the WWI era. This example is in wonderful condition. The other canteen is a WWII Special Naval Landing Forces Canteen. Enlisted pattern canteen with a light khaki canvas cover and a screw-off aluminum cap. Complete with its adjustable canvas shoulder strap. The coth cover has Japanese markings.

This is an excellent canteen overall, with complete and correct WW2 features and showing typical wear and use.

A lovely lot ready for further research and display.
