Original U.S. / British Early Revolutionary War era Colonial Blacksmith Hand Forged Trade Tomahawk With Maker Marking - M.A.P.

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a remarkable and authentic piece of history - a trade tomahawk that was likely made by a British or American blacksmith during the 18th century. The tomahawk's head is in excellent condition despite some minor pitting, and appears to be with its original or an older replaced shaft. The blade is designed for cutting and chopping, and was likely used for tasks such as felling small trees, building structures and making firewood. The handle appears to have been with the head for a very long time, being extremely tight despite cracking in the shaft. The handle is likely a period replacement, but it is still a great representation of the trade axes that were used in the colonial era.The length of the head of the tomahawk measures approximately 6 inches with an edge width of 3 ¾ inches, while the handle is about 20½ inches long. There are some small chips in the edge. There is a blacksmith marking present that reads '.M.A.P.’ although we have not been able to find any reliable information regarding this marking. The other side of the head appears to be marked 20 very faintly. A good research project.This is a beautiful example of a Revolutionary War era Colonial blacksmith made tomahawk!
