Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 4 Available. This is an excellent grouping of various patches 3 of which appear to have been theater made. They are in wonderful, solid condition with all details and colors still present. In the U.S. patches were first worn in war by the Union Army in the American Civil War as a way to quickly see which division the soldier belonged to. These early military patches were little more than a square of colored cloth sewn onto the hat or shirt. These first patches were very simple and hand-sewn. From simple shapes to elaborate embroidered patches, the use of unit identifiers such as these will always be collectable!

The patches in this lot:
- 1st Marine Division: This patch does appear to be an Australian made example and a rare one at that. The 1st Marine Division shoulder patch originally was authorized for wear by members of units who served with or were attached to the Division in the Pacific in World War II; it was the first patch to be approved in that war and specifically commemorated the division's sacrifices and victory in the Battle for Guadalcanal. It features the National Colors - red, white, and blue - in its diamond-shaped blue background with red numeral "1" inscribed with white lettering, "GUADALCANAL." The white stars featured on the night-sky blue background are in the arrangement of the Southern Cross constellation, under which the Guadalcanal fighting took place.

- Theater Made US Army “Honor Guard” Rocker: Since World War II, The 3rd United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) has served as the official Army honour guard and escort to the President, and it also provides security for Washington, D.C., in time of national emergency or civil disturbance. Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknowns is guarded by members of the U.S. 3rd Infantry Regiment.

- 1st Cavalry “Panic” Patch: The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 1st Cavalry Division on 3 January 1921, with several variations in colors of the bend and horse's head to reflect the subordinate elements of the division. With the humorous patches that evolved during the Vietnam War, this would have been rather fitting, especially for the Huey pilots!

- 8th Army Patch: The 8th army patch was worn from 1944 to Present. The United States Eighth Army was activated June 1944 at Memphis Tennessee. During World War II the "Amphibious Eighth" made fifty-two beach assualts on islands across the Pacific. Red and white are the colors used to distinguish the flags of Armies.

- Nuremberg Trials Guard Patch: The Nuremberg trials were held by the Allies against representatives of the defeated NSDAP Germany for plotting and carrying out invasions of other countries and atrocities against their citizens in World War II.

A great assortment of patched insignia that comes more than ready for furtehr research and display.
