Original U.S. Operation Desert Storm Iraqi M1 Steel Helmet with Camouflage Paint

Item Description

Original Item: Before the 1980s the Iraqi Armed Forces used various steel helmets which were mostly of Soviet origin. These included Russian M40 and M60 helmets and Polish M50 patterns, They also used M1 style steel helmets from the US, West Germany, and other European clones.

This Desert sand camouflage M1 steel helmet appears to be an American manufactured helmet which was painted a tan sand color, the exterior was camouflaged in green and browns. The liner is plastic and sand colored with complete webbing.

The venerable M-1 steel helmet was supplied in large quantities by the US to the Saudis in the 1960s and 70s, and in turn by the Saudis to Iraq in the 1980s Iran Iraq War. Many of these "Iraqi steel pots" were brought home as prized war souvenirs by US servicemen returning from Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
