Original 18th Century Pair of Silver Mounted Ottoman Flintlock Pistols - circa 1790

Item Description

Original Items: One Matched Pair Only. Earlier than most Ottoman flintlock pistols encountered today, this pair of silver mounted flintlock pistols were made around 1790. They have 11" barrels and measure 18" in overall length. Each is covered in multiple fretted silver plaques as well as having silver butt caps, trigger guards and side plates. Overall the pistols show use and ware and the barrels are pitted on most of the exterior surface but with no active rust. One pistol has some wood damage directly under the lock possibly due to the mainspring having dis-engaged from the tumbler at some time. The head of one Tang screw absent.

These are exactly what were being carried by the Barbary Pirates off the North African Coast at the time a problem ultimately settled by the Americans in the early 1800's. Very impressive, complete with faux steel ramrods as the custom was the carry the ramrod secured by a thong which hung around the neck so it could not be dropped.

Fully cleaned to their best display condition!
