  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine Japanese Military Bugle from the WWII period. You can identify it as such by the style of the bugle, the Japanese-style mouthpiece, and the large clamp that secures the tuning slide / lead pipe into the instrument. This example has the rare black cloth connected over the top portion as shown, with a beautiful orange cord wrapped around the two rings. The cord is heavily faded and damaged with both knots retained however they are extremely frayed.

The bugle features all brass construction, with a two piece brazed bell with a bell garland. The mouthpiece inserts right in but is entirely loose, and brass. The wing nut that tightens around the lead pipe for pitch adjustment is present, but it no longer works as the mouthpiece just falls out of the bugle if picked up. The pipe that the mouthpiece goes into has a crack as shown. Also, the chain that secures the mouthpieces to the hanger ring is gone.

Wrapped around the top of the bugle is a very nice faded red cord, which is tied to the two hanger rings, with a tassel on each end. This is the correct style and color for the Imperial Japanese Army. It's very rare to find these with an original tassel. Some of the cord is seen wrapped around the now-detached mouthpiece.

The front of the bell has a maker’s logo, an S in a Star, over NO 2, a good research project! The bell has some heavy denting as shown.

A very rare piece from the Empire of the Rising Sun.

The branch of the military would normally be identified by a sash with tassels
attached to the bugle by the two large inner rings, red for Army as an example. Further identifying this as a WWII period piece, as opposed to modern day, is the lack of a condensation valve on the front edge.
