Original Item. Only One Available. This is a fantastic working example of a Wabash “Blackout Bulb”. Their purpose was to create a minimal light source to be used inside homes during air raid alert "blackouts", in which there was reason to believe there was danger of an air raid. When this happened, all normal bulbs had to be turned off, and these bulbs had to be used instead. The idea was to make it more difficult for enemy aircraft to locate their targets.
The bulb is mounted on a custom-made display stand which has a plug, and the bulb is still functional! They certainly don’t make these like they used to. The stand measures 4½ x 5½ x 8”. The label on the bulb is a replacement meant to add to the display.
