  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very service worn pair of Pattern 1944 United States Marine Corps Reversible Camouflage Utility Uniform Trousers. This cotton HBT (Herring Bone Twill) Camouflage pattern uniform was issued to Marines at the end of WWII and during the Korean war. This pattern was seen as an improvement over the one-piece "jungle" coveralls, which lacking a drop seat, made "relieving yourself" difficult in combat situations. However, the Marines who wore the Camouflage on Tarawa and elsewhere were easy to spot when moving (as opposed to be stationary) and the pattern was discontinued. The Uniform Coat and pants were both designed to be reversible. The outer side is the base green "jungle" camouflage pattern, with the tan or "sand" side inside the jacket and pants.

The trousers are in very worn condition with some color loss and fading. All black U.S.M.C “doughnut hole” buttons are present and in good original condition, with light wear to the "blackened" finish. The snaps however are in rough condition with several of them having broken through and stuck to the receiving end. The fabric shows some staining and has some small tears, as expected from use in service. The trousers themselves appear to be tailored to better fit the user, done so more than likely for an officer upon request.

The trousers are named on the rear SGT. BREDICE, identifying the helmet to Anthony P. Bredice, who during World War II served with the 3rd Artillery Corps, attached to the 1st Marine Division. He took part in the Battle of Okinawa and several others. He remained in the Marine Corps into the Korean War era, when he was promoted to sergeant.

A good named set of rare trousers, ready for further research and display.
