  • Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a very nice WWII Asiatic Pacific front bring-home grouping of Japanese souvenirs, brought back by U.S. Marine Corporal Ronald C. Derosier, who served with the 8th Service Regiment and Marine Supply Service Military Police Company, Sixth Base Depot, Fifth Amphibious Corps during the war. The contents come in a large Japanese spare parts crate which is dated the first month of Showa 19, which is 1944. There is heavy Kanji markings to the front which could be translated with some work. The trunk measures 19¼ x 13 x 6½” and has a brass plate to the front reading “S.T. FRENCH”. The latches  still work well.

The contents of the crate include:

    - Original Japanese riding crop/whip with Kanji markings on the handle. Very rare and desirable.
    - Derosier’s original US Marine Corps Stencil stamp reading R.C. DEROSIER. VERY difficult to find.
    - Aluminum fragment likely from Japanese or American crashed airplane. Stamped 89L43118_R with yellow paint.
    - Original U.S. Pocket Shield bible in original shipping sleeve to Ronald Derosier from Mr. Ted Lawrence. This outstanding example reads God’s Weapon to the front, a very rare variant of bible! Named on the interior to Derosier. New Testament.
    - Japanese book about German Paratroopers, named to a German inside.
    - Small painted porcelain lid with metal rim.

    - Imperial Japanese Army Brass Bugle with Red Cord, unmarked. Cord is in good shape but is not connected to the two rings. The chain is no longer connected to the brass mouthpiece but the mouthpiece is threaded and unscrewable.
    - Japanese Aluminum canteen with canvas harness and integrated cap. Kanji stamp on canvas and stamps into bottom of canteen.
    - Single eye piece of a Japanese periscope. Unmarked. Optic blocked.
    - Two US Marine corps patches, veteran pieces.
    - Pair of Corporal chevrons.
    - Puck-shaped souvenir piece of rubber(?) carved RD with JAN 1942 along rim. Other side has pattern. Interesting piece.
    - Arisaka action cover, rare piece to find on its own.
    - U.S. Lighthouse Establishment-marked Stanley Box Sextant by Keuffel & Esser Co of New York. Complete and interesting in original case.
    - Lighthouse-related Level by Keuffel & Esser Co of New York. Missing other end. In case.
    - Japanese ink stamp pad, no stamp.
    - Several Japanese books in varying condition.
    - Guadalcanal souvenir aluminum bracelet.
    - 3 place ribbon bar with WWII Victory, American Campaign, and Asiatic Campaign.
    - Pair of scissors, marked GERMANY.
     - Pack of Japanese cigarettes taken as souvenir, wow.
    - Small rock taken from Southeastern Asia island, very interesting.
    - Book of matches, half used.
    - Small string of rocks likely used as bracelet.
    - US Marine Good Conduct Medal, numbered 21328.
    - Various medals in a small cigar box.
    - Bullet on bracelet.
    - Several EGA insignia of various sizes.
    - FMF Seahorse patch.
    - Two pieces from Japanese gas mask.
    - Mexican Border Medal numbered 6110 which is number-tracable to 1st Lieutenant Edward J. Sabins, New Haven Connecticut. Brooch is torn.
    - Captured Japanese Navy rank patch.
    - Photo of man in locket.

The group also has two printed pages of research documents for Derosier. He certainly served in the Pacific theater extensively and brought a lot back with him.
