  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is an excellent original U.S. WWII Army Ordnance Department wristwatch manufactured by Waltham and retaining its original wristband. The watch has a cream-colored military dial, subsidiary seconds register, luminous hands, stainless steel case with screw back, and a 17-jewel manual winding movement. It has been professionally cleaned and oiled and is currently running correctly.

There is no warranty for this watch and returns for a non-working watch will not be honored. Please note all watches are wound and tested then recorded on video before shipment. We are not in the watch repair business - ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

This is an excellent example of a Mid-War production OG Officer Grade issue Stainless Steel Case Waltham Model 10617 17-Jewel wrist watch, with a stainless steel screw back closure. This wonderful example has been fully cleaned, tested and runs perfectly. It was manufactured for the US Army, and has a white face with radium luminous hands for night use. Only the minute and hour hands retain any luminosity. If the numbers were luminous, they are not anymore. It has the name WALTHAM on the dial face. The band is the original one issued with this watch, very rare to see. The Army serial number is 184468, which places production around 1943-44 based on past watches we have sold.

During WWII, Waltham supplied watches for the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps [the Air Force was the Army Air Force]. In 1940, the Ordnance Department published the requirements for military watches. The list includes pocket, wrist, and stop watches.

    Marking on the case reads:

    ORD.DEPT.
    U.S.A.
    OC - 184468

This watch is definitely in good shape. The metal components are nice, with some scratches and dents but nothing too serious. This wonderful example has been fully cleaned, tested and runs perfectly. The watch crystal is a modern plastic replacement made to original specifications. The hands are original, and quite nice.

The Ordnance Department case marking, Waltham dial, 17-jewel Model 10617 movement, original hands and crown, retained military band, and current functional condition make this a strong example of a U.S. WWII service wristwatch. The replacement crystal, minor case scratches and dents, and uncertain exact production date are the principal descriptive considerations.

There is no warranty for this watch and returns for a non-working watch will not be honored. Please note all watches are wound and tested then recorded on video before shipment. We are not in the watch repair business - ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
