Original U.S. WWII M4 Bayonet for the M1 Carbine by CASE with M8 Scabbard by PWH

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice genuine WWII U.S. Army M4 Carbine bayonet fighting knife, with an original M8A1 scabbard. Nicely marked U.S. M4 / CASE on the blade side of the hand guard for the desirable maker, W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. of Bradford, PA.. On the underside of the guard is the U.S. Ordnance "Flaming Bomb". The blade is in fair condition, showing light wear and sharpening, with much of the original finish still intact. There are quite a few nicks in the edge that we can see, and the crossguard, handle, and pommel are all tight to the blade.

The bayonet still has the original WWII issue leather washer grip, which is in good shape. These have not been changed out, and the leather in the grip shows heavy wear, and a bit of rounding. The pommel is held on by an unusual "semi cylindrical" peening pattern, used only by Case Cutlery, and no other makers. With the flaming bomb proves this is definitely a WWII example, and not a later reissue.

It comes in a nice WWII issue OD green thermoplastic impregnated cotton fabric scabbard marked U.S. M8 / PWH., also in offered in good condition. This early production scabbard was updated to the M8A1 standard by replacing the canvas frog with one that had a belt loop, as almost all were. There is some wear to the scabbard, but it still has almost all of the original green paint. The throat shows only slight wear to the finish, as shown. The canvas is in very good condition, and the snap still functions, with finish wear. The scabbard was manufactured by the Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind (PWH).
