Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The Legion of Merit (LOM) is a military award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. The decoration is issued to members of the eight uniformed services of the United States as well as to military and political figures of foreign governments.
This is an outstanding set consisting of an unengraved medal, War Department certificate, and citation signed by Harry Truman. It was presented to Red Army Lieutenant Colonel Semen I. Popov, with the citation reading:
Lieutenant Colonel Semen I. Popov, serving as chief of Staff of the 98th Guards Infantry Division, Red Army, displayed exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services in connection with military operations against the common enemy. His ability materially aided the successful junction of Russian and United States troops at the Moldau River near Pisek, Czecho-slovakia, on 10 May 1945, and the defeat of the German forces.
The citation has an annotation in Russian. It is on White House stationary and is signed by Truman. It is 8 x 10 ½”.
The War Department certificate is dated April 9th, 1946 and is 10 x 12”.
The medal is unengraved but is a good representative example.
