Original Item. Only One Available. During World War II the U.S. Government issued millions of posters by hundreds of artists and distributed them widely throughout the country. The Office of War Information, working with various departments, was responsible for nearly all the posters. Most can be considered either warnings (careless talk), or encouragements (do your part), or fundraisers (buy war bonds).

The bonds that financed World War II were originally known as Defense Bonds, but after the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941 they were called War Bonds. As the war progressed, and towards the end they were referred to as Victory Bonds. These bonds played an enormous part in winning the war. There were eight specific War Loan Drives conducted during the war from 1942 to 1945. Each drive was expected to bring in an additional $9 to $15 billion for the war effort. Over the course of the war some 85 million Americans purchased bonds – often in small denominations. About $185 billion was raised for the war effort from the sale of bonds.

This poster, measuring 18¼ x 26”, encouraged citizens to both buy victory bonds and keep up with their savings from using the bonds, with a large table that shows how much you will have saved in one, five, and ten years. The background of the poster has different things that could be done with the money saved, including vacation, retirement, start a business, buy a home, etc.

A very lovely WWII poster, dated 1943 on the bottom. There isn’t much issue besides normal fold markings. Comes ready to be framed and displayed.
